The goal of Richland Police Nuisance Code Enforcement is to prevent the physical and visual deterioration of our community. By enforcing the Richland Municipal Codes, we can help you clean up your neighborhoods and maintain a healthy and safe environment.
How to Report Code Violations
- Call the Code Enforcement Reporting Line and leave a detailed message at 509-942-7739. Please include the following:
- Location of violation
- Description of violation
- Contact information
- Download and complete the complaint form, or pick one up at at the Richland Police Department
- Submit an online service request

Common Violations
- Grass and weeds over 6” tall and determined to be a nuisance, safety or fire hazard.
- Junk vehicles must be stored out of public/private view. Junk vehicles are defined as having at least three of the five following criteria:
- Over three years old
- Expired registration/license
- Inoperable
- Extensively damaged
- Scrap value only
- Inoperable vehicles must be stored out of public/private view. Inoperable vehicles are defined as:
- Having been in a stationary position for more than 14 calendar days, or
- Are apparently inoperable, or
- Requires repairs in order to be operable.
- RV’s and large vehicle storage may not be stored (parked for five days or longer) on public streets. When storing these large vehicles on private property, you must have a 10-foot setback from the roadway. Large vehicles include:
- Boats
- Campers
- Motor homes
- Recreational vehicles
- Utility trailers
- Appliances, household furniture, and vehicle parts, including tires must not be visible from public/private property.
- Animal noise complaints: Please contact non-emergency dispatch at 509-628-0333 to report a violation as it's happening. Reports of other animal noise should be directed to Animal Control at 509-545-3740.
