The City of Richland street maintenance crews are dedicated to preserving the safety of our community during snow and ice events. Learn about our priority system and get safety tips below.
Priority Street Maintenance System
When snow or ice conditions are in the forecast, Richland street maintenance crews apply anti-icing chemicals to the arterials, collector streets (including school zones), and steep streets. Depending on the type, accumulation, and recurrence of winter storm events, the streets supervisor will determine if and when other resources are deployed.
During a snow or ice event, street maintenance crews treat and clear streets in this order:
- Priority 1: Main arterial streets
- Priority 2: Collector streets/school zones
- Priority 3: High priority steep streets
- Priority 4: Remaining residential streets, only when high accumulations occur
Please note: Snow and ice control efforts are for vehicular traffic. Bike lanes and shoulders are not prioritized during snow and ice control. Crews use bike lanes and shoulders for snow storage.
