New energy services and construction projects taking place in a commercial setting are subject to the specific codes, inspections, and other requirements below. Before beginning your project, please check with the Electrical Engineering and Permitting offices to verify local requirements.
Planning Instructions
The steps to begin planning for a new commercial development are:
- Prepare and submit an Electrical Commercial Plan Review list of required items.
- The Utility's Engineering staff will review and determine the necessary electrical utility design and fees.
- The distribution designer will confirm availability of the voltage, as well as single-phase or three-phase service at your project's location.
Electric Utility Inspection Requirements
Conduits & Substructures
All conduits and substructures installed in or below the ground for electric utility use must be inspected by the City prior to backfilling a foundation or structure. Failure to obtain an inspection will require the installer to expose any or all of the buried facilities for an inspection. Please schedule an inspection at least 48 hours in advance by calling an Energy Services Dispatcher at 509-942-7421.
Electrical Service Equipment & Service Laterals
To speak with the Department of Labor and Industries (L&I) regarding inspection of electrical service equipment and service laterals owned by the customer, call L&I inspectors at 509-735-0138.
